ROUTE 2012 Talent Transfer

talent_transfer_line_logo INTRODUCTION

Cycling Ireland in partnership with the Irish Sports Council and Sport Northern Ireland are introducing their talent transfer programme; ROUTE 2012, to find athletes with the potential to make an Irish track cycling team bidding for London 2012 Olympic qualification.

Talent Transfer is about the recognition of athletes who already possess highly developed physical attributes and skills and have the potential to transfer these talents to another sport.

If you have a proven track record of performance at international level or at the highest standard nationally, preferably in endurance based sport you could find through ROUTE 2012 testing that your specific talents are best suited to track cycling. If following testing by the ROUTE 2012 team you are deemed to have the potential you may be invited to join the track cycling programme bidding for London 2012!

talent_transfer_line_logo BACKGROUND

Fact

Previously an Olympic silver medallist at the Athens Games in rowing, Rebecca Romero made the switch to track cycling and four years later is the new Olympic Champion, having won gold on the track at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Romero also won gold earlier this year at the track cycling world championships.

Question?

Could you replicate Rebecca's amazing story? Do you have what it takes to compete in the 2012 Olympics?

The Plan

We want to take young men and women with a background of sports training and competition at a high level and provide them with the opportunity and environment to transfer their skills to track cycling.

talent_transfer_line_logo IS IT YOU?

If you think you can handle the speed, are aged between 17 and 30 (male or female) and consider yourself to:

  • Have a proven track record of performance at international level or at the highest standard nationally, preferably in an endurance based sport
  • Experience of following an intensive high-quality training programme, probably in excess of 15 hours per week
  • Have good levels of power and speed
  • Have good levels of endurance
  • Enjoy competition and high-speed challenges
  • Be a fast, tactical thinker
  • Be "coachable", i.e. prepared to listen to advice and try new skills
  • Be able to demonstrate persistence and determination
  • Be eligible to compete for Ireland

Then Yes, It Could Be You....

If you think you meet the above criteria, come along to the ROUTE 2012 testing taking place in your region to see whether you are suitable for a potential career in track cycling.

The exercise tests will give an indication of your power output and will take approximately 40 minutes to administer.

Track cycling is exciting, explosive and fast. It provides the ultimate mental and physical challenge.
